Goal programming with linear fractional criteria: an application to a forest problem

Abstract:

In a goal programming problem with linear fractional criteria, the resulting problem is not easy to solve due to the non-linear constraints inherent in its formulation. The paper Goal Programming with Linear Fractional Criteria: An Application to a Forest Problem (R. Caballero, T. Gómez, M. Hernández, M.A. León) introduces a simple and reliable test to establish whether a linear fractional goal problem has solutions satisfying all the goals; if this is the case, the solutions are found by solving a linear programming problem. This scheme has been applied to a forest planning problem which made economic and ecological objectives compatible with data provided by the Integral Forest Enterprise of Pinar del Rio (Cuba).
